Founder and Director of Rogue River Spectroscopy
is Mary Carrabba, Ph.D. Dr. Carrabba is actively
involved in the Society for Applied Spectroscopy, having served
as Chair of the Baltimore/Washington Section, National Treasurer,
and Governing Board representative. She currently edits the ‘Spectroscopists’
Calendar’ column for the Society’s journal Applied Spectroscopy.
Dr. Carrabba is also a member of the American Chemical Society,
the Microbeam Analysis Society and currently serves on the Board
of Managers for the Coblentz Society.
For the past 16 years*,
Dr Carrabba has pursued interests in the application of vibrational
spectroscopy to forensic and industrial problem solving. She holds
undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry/Biophysics and Criminology,
a Master’s degree in Forensic Science, and a Ph.D. in Analytical
Chemistry.
Her graduate research, conducted at the FBI Academy,
focused on the application of infrared microscopy to forensic textile
fiber examinations. She joined the FBI Laboratory in 1991 as a chemist
specializing in the infrared analysis of trace evidence.
The many notable cases Dr. Carrabba worked on
include the World Trade Center Bombing, Oklahoma City Bombing,
the O.J. Simpson case and the Unabomber investigation.
In 1997 Dr. Carrabba joined Hewlett-Packard as a failure analysis
engineer. There she specialized in the application of infrared,
Raman and UV/visible spectroscopies to manufacturing problems in
the thermal inkjet cartridge industry and worked on various HP Research
and Development projects.
